Useful websites for English teachers
These are a few sites we hope will help you in your teaching - including where to go to find more links.
Online support
- NET Forum - the discussion forum and resource centre for this training course. You should receive an email inviting you to join. Ask questions, make suggestions and find additional course materials here - you'll need to log in using the email address you supplied to your trainer.
Other forums
For general discussion forums about English teaching (not restricted to ICT and English) see:
These are more specialised forums and sites that could be used by students:
- The Language Legend: a lively blog from Julie Blake, 'keeping you posted on cool stuff happening in the world of words'. A good example of blogging with a purpose - suitable for A Level students as well as their students. Hovever, on 19 January 2006 the blog announced 'E-Julie is taking a well-earned fictional Gap Year', so no more updates for a while!
- Cool Reads: Hundreds of books reviewed by 10-15 year olds.
- BBC Onion Street: discussion areas for secondary students.
Resources
- Curriculum Online: find multimedia resources that your school can buy with eLCs and other funds (and many that are free).
- NATE: the subject association for English teachers. Keep up to date with the news, learn about courses and browse the bookshop.
- Practical Support Pack from the DfES:
an online resource with lesson content and plans, multimedia resources and ICT support materials with a substantial English area: more resources have recently been added.
- Teachit: famous for its vast library of free resources, Teachit also has interactive paid-for content.
- Literary Connections teaching resources page has links to many more useful websites.
Weblinks
- Literary Connections: provides links to a large number of sites, including those mentioned during the course. Rather than list more sites on this page, you'll find links there - email the site if you have more suggestions.
A little extra - when you're ready to collapse
- Collapser: an invaluable free tool from English Online that allows you to turn any piece of text into a list sorted in a variety of ways. (Teachit Works subscribers have access to Cruncher, a text collapser with even more facilities.)
Your trainer will suggest some more sites and colleagues will have favourites - please share them with us by contributing to the NET Forum or by emailing your trainer or email .
